Board of Park Commissioners Meeting January 12, 2026
January 12, 2026
The City of Wichita Board of Park Commissioners met on January 12, 2026, to discuss various park-related projects and updates. A key procurement-related topic was the proposed relocation and restoration of the Lotus Flower stainless steel sculptures by local artist Tina Morano. The sculptures, previously deinstalled due to flotation failure and vandalism, were restored by Atwood Studios with re-engineering for longevity. The board considered relocating the sculptures to a reflecting pool at Exploration Place, a site with integrated lighting and increased security, though no formal vote was taken due to lack of quorum. Additionally, updates were provided on park maintenance contracts, including mowing services and infrastructure repairs, as well as capital improvement projects such as golf course renovations and community center developments. Financial reports highlighted strong revenue performance in park programs and golf operations, with ongoing capital projects funded through existing budgets. The board also discussed coordination with the Park Foundation on fundraising efforts and upcoming master plan public engagement events. Due to the absence of a quorum, some decisions were deferred for email voting or future meetings.
