USNORTHCOM Deploys Counter-Drone Fly-Away Kit
March 19, 2026
U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) has operationally deployed a mobile counter small unmanned aircraft system (sUAS) fly-away kit developed by Anduril Industries to defend Department of Defense installations against hostile drone incursions. The system was actively used during the February 28, 2026 strikes against Iran, successfully detecting and neutralizing enemy drones over a strategic U.S. facility. Following this deployment, USNORTHCOM has ordered two additional kits to expand its counter-drone capabilities, underscoring the growing importance of rapid, mobile drone defense solutions in current military operations.
- Why this matters: Procurement professionals should note the demonstrated operational effectiveness of mobile counter-drone systems in active defense scenarios, signaling increased demand for such technologies.
- The involvement of Anduril Industries as prime contractor highlights opportunities for vendors specializing in advanced counter-UAS solutions.
- Agencies may prioritize acquisition of mobile, rapidly deployable counter-drone kits to enhance protection of critical installations.
- Contractors should consider aligning offerings with evolving DoD requirements for integrated, field-ready counter-sUAS capabilities to support future solicitations and sustainment contracts.
