ICE Extends CoreCivic Contract in New Jersey
March 17, 2026
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to extend CoreCivic's contract by two months to continue operating the Elizabeth Detention Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey, with the extension effective April 1, 2026. ICE cited CoreCivic as the only provider able to meet the government's operational needs by the required start date. This short-term extension follows ongoing contracts with major private prison operators, including GEO Group, which operates the Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark, New Jersey, under a contract valued at over $1 billion awarded in February 2025.
- Why this matters: Procurement professionals should note ICE's reliance on established private detention operators for continuity of services, highlighting the importance of existing contractor relationships and operational readiness.
- The extension indicates potential upcoming solicitations or contract renewals where competition may be limited due to operational constraints.
- Contractors interested in detention facility operations should evaluate capabilities to meet stringent government requirements and timelines, especially in New Jersey.
- This development underscores ongoing federal investment in private detention management, relevant for strategic planning in corrections and detention services contracting.
Out of respect to our government partners at ICE, we kindly ask that you direct your contract related questions to ICE public affairs.
