Army Advances Precision Strike Missile Deployment
March 19, 2026
The U.S. Army is accelerating the development and production of the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), including the Increment 2 variant equipped with a new multi-mode seeker capable of engaging moving maritime and land targets up to 500 km away. Lockheed Martin, as the prime contractor, has successfully completed key flight tests in early 2026 and is preparing for initial seeker purchases by mid-2026. Concurrently, the Army plans to ramp up production of specialized munitions, including PrSM and hypersonic weapons like the Dark Eagle, to meet evolving combat demands and enhance long-range strike capabilities. Fielding of PrSM Increment 2 is targeted for fiscal years 2027-2028, reflecting a strategic push to modernize missile forces for multi-domain operations.
- Why this matters: Procurement professionals should anticipate increased contracting opportunities with Lockheed Martin and related suppliers as production scales up for PrSM and associated missile systems.
- The integration of maritime strike capabilities expands the operational scope of Army missile programs, influencing future requirements and contract scopes.
- Organizations should evaluate supply chain readiness and production capacity to support accelerated munitions manufacturing timelines.
- This development signals sustained investment in long-range precision fires, impacting budget planning and acquisition strategies across Army missile programs.
By leveraging modular design, agile processes and close collaboration with the Army and our supplier network, weβre moving quickly to deliver this enhanced capability to the warfighter faster without compromising performance or reliability.
— Gaylia Campbell
Weβre looking to ramp up all munitions across the board. I want to make sure that we have enough to fight, and fight and win anywhere we need to fight and win on the globe.
— Lt. Gen. Frank Lozano
With Increment 2, PrSM delivers the long-range capability the Army asked for to defeat moving land and maritime threats.
