U.S. Army Adds Hydrogen-Powered UAS
March 13, 2026
The U.S. Army Contracting Command β Redstone Arsenal awarded a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) in January 2026 to Heven AeroTech for its hydrogen-powered Z1 unmanned aircraft system (UAS) and associated hydrogen generation systems. This BOA establishes a streamlined procurement vehicle that enables Army units to acquire advanced, domestically produced UAS technology with extended endurance and enhanced logistical flexibility. The agreement supports faster acquisition cycles and aligns with the Army's focus on resilient, mission-critical unmanned systems.
- The BOA facilitates expedited ordering and deployment of hydrogen-powered UAS, reducing lead times for operational units.
- Procurement professionals should note the emphasis on domestic technology alignment, reflecting DoD priorities for supply chain security and innovation.
- Contractors specializing in hydrogen fuel systems and advanced UAS platforms may find new opportunities under this streamlined acquisition pathway.
- The location at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, highlights a key Army contracting hub for unmanned systems and related technologies.
Through this BOA, we are positioned to provide Army units with a pre-negotiated acquisition pathway to Hevenβs systems, enabling faster procurement and accelerating our ability to support evolving mission requirements with resilient, domestically aligned technology.
