NASA Extends SEWP V Contract Amid SEWP VI Protests
March 16, 2026
NASA is extending the SEWP V contract ordering period through September 30, 2026, with an option to extend to April 30, 2027, to accommodate delays in the SEWP VI recompete source selection caused by multiple protests and a high volume of proposals. Four bidders—Sudofy, Blue Obsidian Solutions, Bridges Systems Integration, and Blazar Technology Solutions—were reinstated into the SEWP VI competition after GAO dismissed their protests, while other protests remain active, further delaying contract award. This extension prevents disruption in the government-wide SEWP program, which supports IT acquisitions with a $60 billion ceiling under SEWP VI. Additionally, NASA's SEWP program manager Joanne Woytek plans to retire in October 2026, prompting NASA to ensure a smooth transition between contract vehicles.
- Why this matters: Procurement professionals should note the extended ordering period for SEWP V through at least September 2026, with potential availability until April 2027, allowing continued IT acquisitions under the existing vehicle amid SEWP VI delays.
- The $60 billion SEWP VI recompete remains under evaluation with multiple protests resolved or pending, indicating ongoing opportunities and competition for vendors.
- Contractors involved in SEWP VI should prepare for potential further delays and monitor GAO protest outcomes impacting award timing.
- NASA's leadership transition in the SEWP program may influence future contract management and communication; stakeholders should engage accordingly.
SEWP VI source selection activities are nearing completion as planned; however, due to the significant volume of proposals received, additional time is needed to make selection and award.
