Federal Meeting
MARKUP Day Two (pt.2): "The Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026"
March 05, 2026
The House Committee on Agriculture convened to discuss and markup the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026. The meeting featured extensive debate on numerous amendments addressing critical issues such as SNAP program funding and administration, rural healthcare and hospital sustainability, broadband access in rural areas, agricultural research funding, conservation efforts, and support for specialty crop producers. Key topics included proposals to fully fund SNAP administrative costs to relieve state budgets, enhance rural health facilities and telehealth services, improve broadband affordability, and support historically Black land grant universities. The committee also deliberated on animal welfare legislation, invasive species control, and rural development programs. Several amendments were withdrawn or postponed due to budget neutrality concerns, while others were adopted to strengthen program integrity and support for rural communities. The session concluded with a call for bipartisan cooperation to finalize a comprehensive farm bill that addresses the needs of farmers, rural families, and national food security.
