State & Local Meeting
Park Volusia
September 09, 2024
The County of Volusia discussed the upcoming implementation of the Park Volusia program, which aims to improve beach access and parking management. Starting October 1, 2024, residents will no longer pay fees to drive on the beach, with a new automated system using license plate recognition to expedite access for annual pass holders. Non-residents will see an increase in daily and annual fees. Additionally, beginning January 1, 2025, a paid off-beach parking program will be introduced for county-owned lots along A1A, with residents able to park for free upon registration. The program includes a streamlined online registration process, in-person support locations, and real-time updates via a mobile app to enhance user experience and reduce operational costs. The initiative aims to reduce the subsidy from property taxes currently covering beach maintenance and improve accessibility and convenience for residents and visitors alike.
