LMD 43 -Greenbelt - Community Meeting - February 25, 2026
February 25, 2026
The City of Oxnard held a community meeting on February 25, 2026, to discuss maintenance and replacement issues related to the lighting system within the LMD 43 Greenbelt area. The existing lighting infrastructure has suffered from vandalism and deterioration, leading to increased repair costs that far exceed the initially allocated budget of $150,000, with bids coming in at approximately $720,000 including overhead. The city proposed creating a secondary assessment district to fund the replacement of the lights without increasing the current levy significantly, which would require a Proposition 218 process and engineering studies. Alternative options such as removing the lights, installing lower-cost bollard or solar lighting, or redesigning the system were also discussed. The meeting emphasized the importance of community input in deciding the path forward, balancing maintenance costs, community aesthetics, and safety.
