Ultrasonic Hull Gauging for USNS KAISER Special Hull Survey No. 8

The Department of the Navy’s Military Sealift Command is seeking qualified ultrasonic hull-gauging services for USNS KAISER’s Special Hull Survey No. 8. - Government buyer: Department of the Navy, Military Sealift Command (MSC), office identified as MSCREP. - Requested service: Work Item WI-0100, ultrasonic thickness gauging under ABS Enhanced Survey Program requirements for USNS KAISER (T-AO 187). - Take up to 35,000 readings; the actual number is determined by ABS, and the contractor must provide a unit price per reading. - Inspect the hull, bulkheads, deck plating, scantlings, piping, specified structures, and equipment foundations and winches. - Provide qualified personnel and equipment; gas-free 36 cargo and ballast tanks; conduct air-quality testing; and provide surface preparation and lighting. Rope-access work is required for the San Diego portion, but not at the Portland location. - Provide daily and final reports and composite drawings, and repair coatings disturbed by the work. - Notable requirements and standards: The contractor must hold current ABS certification for hull gauging and perform the work to ABS Special Hull Survey No. 8 requirements for single-hull tankers under the Enhanced Survey Program. U.S. Coast Guard and ABS survey requirements also inform the work. - Locations and performance: Work is planned at Naval Base San Diego and Vigor Marine shipyard in Portland. The San Diego work is planned for roughly two weeks; the Portland work includes seven consecutive onsite days during dry-docking. - Named organizations: ABS is the certification and survey authority; Vigor Marine is identified as the Portland shipyard. Neither is identified as the hull-gauging contractor. Description

Provide the services of an ABS approved ESP Hull Gauging firm to take and record ultrasonic thickness readings on ship's hull, bulkheads, deck plating, scantlings, piping, and in other areas throughout the ship as required by the MSCREP, USCG, and ABS Surveyor. The requirements of the ABS Special Hull Survey No.8 for Single Hull Tankers in the Enhanced Survey Program shall form the basis for this item.
