NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center awarded a task order for concrete repairs and restoration of the high-pressure gas system at Space Launch Complex 39B. - Award and value: $2.5 million, firm-fixed-price task order to Advon Construction under MACC II. - Work: Repair concrete spalling at Pad B; remove and reinstall approximately 20 high-pressure gas battery vessels to enable the repairs; complete testing, commissioning, and documentation. - Schedule and mission need: Estimated six-month duration after receipt of order. The system must be operational by March 2027 to support Artemis III mission processing. - Selection rationale: Advon was selected under an exception to fair opportunity. Its existing Pad B presence, clearances, equipment, and site familiarity are expected to reduce delays and protect launch readiness. - Products and OEMs: No discrete products, part numbers, or equipment manufacturers are identified; the vessels are existing equipment to be removed and reinstalled.

Description

Concrete spalling repair work at Space Launch Complex (LC) LC-39B. To ensure proper access to complete the work, approximately 20 high pressure gas (HPG) battery vessels will have to be removed. After the concrete spalling repair work is completed, the HPG battery vessels will have to be reinstalled. Associated testing, commissioning, and documentation are also required. These batteries provide extra gas storage capacity at LC-39B, supporting NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) and NASA’s mission.
