USGS seeks specialized X-ray diffraction (XRD) services for its Thermal Indices and AGGER studies of Ohio Shale samples. - Agency: U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Geology, Energy, and Minerals Science Center (GEMSC). - Services: Paired analyses covering bulk mineralogy (crystalline and amorphous content) and detailed clay-fraction mineralogy. - Quantity: 58 samples for each analysis type. - Required reporting: Clay types and abundances, exact percent smectite interstratification for illite and chlorite, and Reichweit value; procedures and results in Excel format. - Timing: Data is due within two months after sample receipt; the attachment also describes a two-month period of performance from award. - Intended source: QMineral is identified as the only commercially available laboratory able to provide continuity and comparability with historical results. Other capable vendors are invited to respond. - Commercial details: No part numbers or contract value are provided.
Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geology, Energy, and Minerals Science Center (GEMSC) required services for paired bulk mineralogy and detailed clay analysis by way of X-ray diffraction analysis. The proposed work will allow the relationship between clay mineral species and porosity to be fully assessed. The USGS is aware of no other source that can provide the above. Therefore, it intends to make an award to QMinerals unless it is contacted by any vendor who believes they have similar technical expertise and can provide the same service(s). Vendors are invited to contact the Contract Specialist, Miranda Blankenship, via email at Miranda_blankenship@ios.doi.gov no later than 1:00 PM EST, Tuesday, November 10, 2026, with an affirmative answer.
