The Federal Aviation Administration proposes safety-related work on certain Boeing 757 airplanes to address possible power transfer unit control-valve problems. - Government buyer and action - U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); this is a proposed airworthiness directive, not a purchase of products or services. - It would supersede an existing directive for certain Boeing 757 airplanes. - OEM and technical source - The Boeing Company is the aircraft OEM. Boeing Commercial Airplanes is identified as the source of the technical instructions, Boeing Alert Requirements Bulletin 757-29A0071 RB, Revision 1. - Affected aircraft - Boeing 757-200, 757-200PF, 757-200CB, and 757-300 series airplanes identified in the bulletin. The FAA estimates 467 affected U.S. airplanes; these aircraft are subject to the proposed requirements, not being procured. - Required work - Depending on aircraft configuration, install relays and connectors, modify wire bundles, inspect and perform an operational test, and complete corrective actions indicated by results. - On-condition actions may include rerouting wire bundle W2514, installing a seal ring at the right body fairing feedthru seal, and correcting failed tests and repeating the test until it passes. - The work addresses risks to power transfer unit availability and safe takeoff. - Estimated compliance effort and cost - Estimated up to 45 work-hours and $4,730 in parts per airplane; estimated total compliance cost is $8,555 per airplane. The number of airplanes requiring additional on-condition actions is undetermined.
Description
The FAA proposes to supersede Airworthiness Directive 2024-25-09, which applies to certain Boeing Model 757 airplanes. The proposed directive addresses errors in the previously mandated requirements bulletin that may prevent required corrective actions or introduce hazards affecting the power transfer unit. Depending on airplane configuration, it would require installing relays and connectors, changing wire bundles, performing an operational test, and completing applicable on-condition actions.
