The Federal Aviation Administration issued an aircraft safety directive covering certain Boeing 747-400 and 747-8 airplanes. - Government buyer: U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); no specific office is identified. - OEMs and named companies: - Boeing: aircraft manufacturer and publisher of the referenced requirements bulletin. - Crane Aerospace Hydro-Aire: identified in connection with the affected pump components. - Required compliance work: repetitive inspections of horizontal stabilizer fuel-tank transfer pump housing inlet check valves and pump motor impeller inlet adapters, followed by applicable corrective actions such as replacing damaged components. - The directive also restricts installation of affected parts unless they have been inspected and found serviceable. The safety concern is that component wear could create an ignition source and lead to a fuel-tank explosion. - The work applies to specified airplanes and must follow Boeing Alert Requirements Bulletin 747-28A2373 RB. No purchase quantities or commercial procurement are specified; this is a regulatory safety action.
Description
The FAA final rule supersedes Airworthiness Directive 2023-07-09 for certain Boeing Model 747-400 and -8 series airplanes. It requires repetitive inspections of horizontal stabilizer fuel tank transfer pump housing inlet check valves and transfer pump motor impeller inlet adapters for damage, with applicable on-condition actions. It also limits installation of affected parts unless inspection requirements are met and the parts are serviceable. The directive addresses the risk of a fuel tank explosion and becomes effective December 7, 2026.
