The National Research Council Canada is gathering market information on a high-capacity mixer for battery-electrode research and pilot-scale work. - Government buyer: National Research Council Canada (NRC), Clean Energy Innovation Research Centre (CEI), Boucherville, Québec; Finance and Procurement Services Branch. - Procurement status: Request for information (RFI), not a bid solicitation or commitment to buy. - OEMs and vendors: No equipment OEMs, vendors, manufacturers, models, or part numbers are named. - Product sought: One commercially available large slurry mixer for viscous anode and cathode electrode materials, with desired capacity about ten times NRC’s current 1 L laboratory process. No final purchase quantity is committed. - Desired functions include planetary and high-performance dispersive mixing, vacuum mixing and degassing, temperature control, automated process control, and data logging. - Compatibility requested for water, NMP, GVL, DMF, DMSO, and other battery materials; the system should support safe single-person operation and transfer slurry to a coating-line tank or feed system. - Vendors are asked to address batch-size and viscosity limits, slurry-contact materials and surface finish, facility requirements, maintenance, support, delivery, and comparable installations. - Indicative installation constraints: under 2,000 kg; maximum dimensions of 3,000 mm deep × 2,000 mm wide × 3,000 mm high; compatibility with a ventilation/extraction arm. - Budget indication: CAD $350,000–$400,000 for equipment and delivery, plus approximately CAD $30,000 for installation. The estimated total is roughly USD $275,000–$310,000, subject to exchange rates and final scope. - Related services: Installation, commissioning, and training are relevant to the requested budget information; no service quantity or part number is specified.
Description
The National Research Council of Canada (NRC), through its Clean Energy Innovation Research Centre in Boucherville, Québec, is seeking information on commercially available large slurry mixers for preparing viscous battery electrode slurries in a research and pilot-scale environment. The mixer should support planetary and dispersive mixing, vacuum-assisted mixing and degassing, temperature control, process monitoring and data logging, and compatibility with common battery slurry solvents. NRC is seeking capacity approximately ten times larger than its current 1 L laboratory-scale process and is interested in safe single-user operation and transfer of slurry to a coating line. This is a Request for Information only, not a bid solicitation or commitment to award a contract; the RFI notes an estimated equipment-and-delivery budget of CAD $350,000 to $400,000, excluding approximately CAD $30,000 for installation.
