The University of Iowa is seeking on-call fire alarm inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair services for its health care and campus facilities. - Buyer and coverage: University of Iowa Purchasing Department; work may cover UI Health Care (UIHC) and University Campus Operations, including facilities management, athletics, parking, housing, and dining. UIHC has approximately 30,000 alarms; counts for other facilities are not estimated, and new buildings may be added. - OEMs and installed systems: Simplex by Johnson Controls, Kidde, Fike, VESDA, and Potter equipment is identified in the existing system inventory. Simplex by Johnson Controls is the primary installed system at UIHC. - Requested services: As-needed fire alarm testing, inspection, maintenance, repairs, authorized corrective programming, interface testing, and follow-up inspections. Vendors must provide inspection findings, identified deficiencies, recommended repairs, and repair cost quotes. - Notable requirements: Services must support NFPA 72, NFPA 101, Joint Commission, and CMS requirements. Inspection reports are due within five business days; life-safety impairments require prompt notification, a repair timeline, and coordination of Interim Life Safety Measures. Qualified and appropriately licensed technicians are required; NICET Level II Fire Alarm Systems certification is preferred. Infection-control measures, including a HEPA cart when required and approved, must be available. - Pricing and related items: The bid schedule requests labor rates for foremen, journeymen, apprentices, and helpers across normal, overtime, and weekend/holiday hours, plus a material service fee and HEPA cart purchase and rental rates. One HEPA cart purchase is listed. A sample UIHC fire-pump inspection report records five devices tested and passed.
