USDA FSIS is conducting market research on methods for isolating and confirming Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) in food samples. - Government buyer: U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS); no specific office is identified. - Request: Information on commercially available procedures that improve isolation of diverse STEC from mixed populations in raw beef and other food products, regardless of serogroup. - Technical areas of interest: STEC confirmation protocols and selective media that do not depend on serogroup; vendors are asked to provide capability information addressing the referenced statement of objectives. - OEMs and vendors: No manufacturers, vendors, named products, part numbers, or quantities are identified. - Procurement context: This is market research, not a purchase solicitation; no defined performance period or contract value is provided.
Description
USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service is part of a science-based national system to ensure food safety and food defense. FSIS ensures food safety through the authorities of the Federal Meat Inspection Act, the Poultry Products Inspection Act, and the Egg Products Inspection Act, as well as humane animal handling through the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act. As such this RFI seeks to gather information on commercially available STEC colony isolation procedures that increase the likelihood of identifying and isolating a variety of STEC in raw beef or other food products, regardless of serogroup, from a mixed population. FSIS seeks to understand the level of granularity in STEC confirmation protocols, including selective media that do not rely on STEC serogroup.
