NAVSUP solicitation for Sonar MK87 Mod 5 lithium batteries and testing

The Department of the Navy is seeking lithium batteries for Sonar MK87 Mod 5 transmitters, with first-article and production testing requirements. - Government buyer: Department of the Navy; NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support (WSS), Mechanicsburg, is the purchasing office. NAVSUP Ammunition Logistics Command and Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PCD), Code A12, are also identified in the supporting requirements. - OEMs and vendors: No battery manufacturer, OEM, or reseller is named in the solicitation or attachments. - Products and quantities: Lithium Battery for Transmitter Sonar MK87 Mod 5, NSN 6135-01-646-5986, to drawing 8630193 and associated specifications. The requirement includes 200 production batteries, 10 destructive first-article test samples, and 32 destructive production-lot test samples. An option allows additional quantities up to 500 batteries, with option quantity steps of 200–299, 300–399, and 400–500. - Notable requirements: The battery is designated a Critical Safety Item. First-article testing and periodic production-lot testing are required, and DoD unique item identification is required for production units. - Supporting deliverables: Test procedures and inspection plans; test and inspection reports; failure-analysis and corrective-action reports; monthly progress reports; quality-assurance system documentation and inspection plans; engineering change proposals; requests for variance; and electronic ammunition transaction reporting for Navy-owned ordnance and ancillary equipment. - Testing and delivery schedule: First-article samples are due within 210 days of award. Production-lot samples are due within 180 days after first-article approval, and production units are due within 210 days after first-article approval. The option may be exercised within 365 days of award.
