The U.S. Army is seeking information on a compact system to decontaminate tactical aircraft interiors without harming sensitive equipment. - Government buyer: Department of War, Portfolio Management Executive for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (PME CBRND), through the Joint Project Manager for CBRN Special Operations Forces (JPM CBRN SOF); notice published by U.S. Army W6QK ACC-APG. - OEMs and vendors: No OEMs, vendors, or specific brands are named in the opportunity. - Requested product: One tactical aircraft interior decontamination dispersal system; no purchase quantity or part number is specified. - Uniformly disperse dry fog or aerosol with a volume median diameter below 10 microns, or gas-phase decontaminant molecules below 0.001 microns, without wetting or damaging sensitive electronics. - Fit within a Polaris MRZR cargo bed; empty weight must not exceed 150 lb and fully loaded weight must not exceed 500 lb. - Support 110–120 VAC, generator, and 28 VDC power, and operate with either cabin placement or external ducting/pumping. - Support aircraft including the CH-47, CV-22, C-130, and AH/MH-6. - Wetted components must be compatible with hydrogen peroxide, modified amine/ammonia solutions, Dahlgren Decon, and JGPD. - The operational system should have no more than five major items, preferably consolidated in one chassis; core dispersal technology must demonstrate TRL 6 or higher. - Potential alternative providers/products: AeroClave decontamination systems, TOMI Environmental Solutions’ SteraMist, Ecolab Bioquell systems, and CURIS decontamination systems may offer related capabilities; the opportunity does not identify any as qualified or compliant.
Description
The Department of War (DoW), Portfolio Management Executive for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (PME CBRND), Joint Project Manager for CBRN Special Operations Forces (JPM CBRN SOF) is seeking information, design concepts, and mature technology capabilities for a Tactical Aircraft Interior Decontamination Dispersal System.
The goal of this initiative is to identify or evaluate a mature, rapidly deployable, and highly reliable hardware applicator system capable of delivering fine-aerosol, dry-fog, or gaseous decontaminants uniformly throughout military aircraft interiors without damaging sensitive electronics.
Key Technical Parameters & Scope:
Dispersal Mechanics: Must disperse a fine aerosol/dry fog with a Volume Median Diameter (VMD) of less than 10 microns (Threshold) or a gas-phase molecular dispersion less than 0.001 microns (Objective) to maximize surface coverage without wetting, pooling, or dripping. Tactical Mobility & Footprint: Must fit securely within a Polaris MRZR cargo bed with a stowed envelope not exceeding 42" H x 18" D x 18" W (Threshold), with a target envelope under 30" H x 14" D x 16" W (Objective) to allow upright walk-through clearance in CH-47 and CV-22 cabins. System Weight: Empty chassis weight must be ≤ 150 lbs (Threshold) for a 4-man lift, with a target empty weight of ≤ 100 lbs (Objective) for a 2-man lift. Fully loaded weight with maximum consumables must not exceed 500 lbs. Power Flexibility: Operable from standard single-phase 110-120 VAC (50/60 Hz), commercial/tactical generators ≤ 6 kW, or vehicle auxiliary 28 VDC (Threshold), with a target capability to interface directly with utility and flight-line power IAW MIL-STD-704 (Objective). Employment Versatility: Must support two primary delivery modes: Internal cabin placement on medium/heavy aircraft (CH-47, CV-22, C-130) and external ducting/pumping into constrained cockpits (AH/MH-6 Little Bird). Material Compatibility: All wetted paths, seals, pumps, and nozzles must demonstrate broad chemical compatibility with existing and emerging USG-standard decontaminants, including aqueous hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$), modified amine/ammonia solutions, Dahlgren Decon, and JGPD. System Modularity: Complete operational system must consist of 5 or fewer major items (Threshold), with a target of a single, all-in-one consolidated chassis (Objective) containing integrated internal stowage for all cords, hoses, and nozzles. Technology Maturity: The core dispersal technology must be at a demonstrated Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or higher in a relevant operating environment to support near-term military evaluation and procurement.
