The Canadian Space Agency is seeking information on Canadian capabilities for lunar microreactors and lunar surface power—not purchasing a system at this stage. - Government buyer: Canadian Space Agency (CSA), Government of Canada; Procurement and Contract & Material Management office. Contact: Kim Lavalle. - Purpose: Gather information from Canadian industry, academia, research institutions, utilities, and other stakeholders to inform future space-exploration planning, technology development, and potential procurement strategies. - Technical context: The notional mission calls for approximately 20–80 kWe of net continuous power and a nominal service life of 10 years or more. Areas of interest include reactor and fuel technologies, heat transport, power conversion, thermal management, electrical distribution, safety, manufacturing, testing, deployment, and operations. - Response scope: Respondents may describe complete systems, subsystems, research and testing capabilities, facilities, supply chains, partnerships, development pathways, or potential consortium roles. Capabilities at Technology Readiness Level 2 or higher are relevant. - OEMs and vendors: No OEMs, commercial vendors, or specific products are named. - Procurement status: This is an information-gathering request only, not a bid solicitation or funding opportunity. No purchase quantities, contract deliverables, or commitment to procure are specified.
Description
The Canadian Space Agency is requesting information from Canadian industry, academia, research institutions, utilities, and other stakeholders about technologies and capabilities relevant to lunar microreactors and enabling technologies. The RFI seeks evidence about Canadian strengths, technology maturity, facilities, supply chains, partnerships, and development pathways; respondents may describe complete systems, subsystems, research or testing capabilities, or consortium roles. Responses may inform future space exploration programs, technology development and demonstrations, procurement strategies, and international collaboration on lunar surface power systems. This is an information-gathering exercise only and is not a bid solicitation, funding opportunity, or commitment by the Government of Canada.
