The FAA proposes safety conditions for the Embraer ERJ 190-400 series airplane and its Enhanced Takeoff System (E2TS). - Government agency: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Transportation. - OEM: Embraer S.A., manufacturer of the ERJ 190-400 series airplane and E2TS. - System involved: E2TS automatically controls the airplane’s pitch and bank angles during takeoff. - Proposed safety requirements: Address takeoff performance, including deviations in rotation speed and takeoff-distance limits; E2TS operation must not result in unsafe flight characteristics. The conditions are intended to provide a safety level equivalent to existing airworthiness standards. - Procurement status: This is a proposed airworthiness rulemaking notice, not a request to purchase products or services. No quantities, part numbers, or contract value are specified.
Description
The Federal Aviation Administration proposes special conditions for the Embraer Model ERJ 190-400 series airplane, which will incorporate the Embraer Enhanced Takeoff System (E2TS). E2TS automatically controls the airplane’s pitch and bank angle during takeoff, and the FAA states that existing airworthiness regulations do not provide adequate safety standards for this feature. The proposed conditions establish additional safety standards addressing takeoff performance and requiring that E2TS operation not result in unsafe flight characteristics.
