NASA is assessing whether to compete a proposed sole-source purchase of high-purity metals for magnetic alloy development at NASA Glenn Research Center. - Buyer and requirement - NASA Shared Services Center is the procuring center for NASA Glenn Research Center. - NASA proposes purchasing raw materials from American Elements, identified in the notice as the sole provider. - Materials requested - Niobium: 15 kg; rough pieces preferred over powder. - Tantalum: 5 kg; rough pieces preferred over powder. - Cobalt: 100 kg; rough pieces preferred over powder. - Iron: 50 kg; rough pieces preferred over powder. - Material requirements - At least 99.9% purity; materials must be clean and homogeneous, with specified impurities below 0.05% by mass. - A certificate of chemical analysis is required for the materials. - The metals will be vacuum induction melted into ingots and planar-flow cast into amorphous ribbons. Rough pieces are preferred to facilitate electromagnetic coupling during melting. - Notice and response details - This is a request for capability statements to assess whether the requirement should be competed, not an award notice. - NASA requests capability statements only; quotations will not be considered. - Submissions must reference notice ID 80NSSC27944045Q. - Schedule and value - No period of performance or delivery schedule is stated in the provided notice materials. - The value is not stated; the range below is an estimate for the listed raw materials, not a government estimate.
