NASA HR-1 and Ni-alloy LP-DED chamber manufacturing demonstration and samples

NASA is seeking information on a planned HR-1 chamber and sample manufacturing demonstration using large-scale laser powder directed energy deposition (LP-DED). - Opportunity and procurement approach - NASA Shared Services Center (NASA/NSSC), on behalf of NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), identifies RPM INNOVATIONS INC as the sole provider for the requirement and intends to pursue a sole-source award. - This is a request for written capability statements and qualifications, not a request for quotes. NASA may use responses to decide whether to compete the procurement. - The notice does not provide quantities, part numbers, or detailed specifications; further requirements are in the attached statement of work (SOW). - Requested items and work - Fabricate a NASA HR-1 heat sink chamber and a Ni-alloy heat sink chamber using LP-DED manufacturing. - Provide representative test samples, including witness coupons and process-development samples, along with qualification samples for the HR-1 effort. - Perform engineering and machine support, including design inputs, toolpath strategies, machine setup and operation, consumables and maintenance, and build-plate preparation. - Complete process characterization, final laser-scan inspection, and provide build and inspection reports. - Location and schedule - Work is associated with NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. - The performance period is six months from authority to proceed (ATP). - Industry information - NAICS code: 336412.

SPECIAL NOTICE:

NASA/NSSC has a requirement for NASA HR-1 Demonstrator Chamber and Qualification Samples. 

NASA/NSSC intends to issue a sole source contract to RPM INNOVATIONS INC under the authority of FAR 12.102(a). It has been determined that RPM INNOVATIONS INC is the sole provider of NASA HR-1 Demonstrator Chamber and Qualification Samples

NASA/NSSC will be the procuring center for this effort. Performance will be located at NASA/ Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).

The Government intends to acquire Commercial items or services using the provisions, clauses and procedures prescribed in FAR Part 12 for Commercial

The NAICS Code for this procurement is 336412.

Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on 10/20/2026. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.
