The Federal Aviation Administration proposes helicopter safety requirements for Leonardo A119 and AW119 MKII models. - Government buyer: U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). - OEM: Leonardo S.p.A., manufacturer of the affected A119 and AW119 MKII helicopters. - Purpose: Supersede an existing airworthiness directive due to possible abnormal rotation of collective stick torque tube assemblies, which could affect helicopter control. - Required actions: Operators would conduct repetitive inspections and, based on results, replace affected parts with serviceable parts. Replacement ends the repetitive inspection requirement; installing affected parts would be prohibited. - Reference: The proposal incorporates EASA AD 2026-0045, subject to FAA exceptions. - Procurement status: This is a proposed aviation safety rule, not a solicitation to buy products or services. No purchase quantities, part numbers, or contract value are specified.
Description
The Federal Aviation Administration proposes to supersede Airworthiness Directive 2024-18-01 for Leonardo S.p.A. Model A119 and AW119 MKII helicopters. The proposed directive would require repetitive inspections of certain collective stick torque tube assemblies and replacement of affected parts depending on inspection results. It would also require replacing an affected part with a serviceable part, which would end the repetitive inspections, and prohibit installation of affected parts. Comments are due November 30, 2026.
