The National Institute on Drug Abuse is seeking research applications to expand the NExUS collaboratory on neural ensembles and addictive substances. - Government buyer: National Institutes of Health (NIH), through the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). - Opportunity: Solicitation RFA-DA-28-013 seeks applications to renew and expand the Collaboratory on Neural Ensembles and Used Substances (NExUS). - Research objectives: - Develop systematic, scalable methods to identify, map, and analyze groups of neurons that respond to substances. - Build a comprehensive multimodal database. - Investigate neural activity patterns associated with substance use and substance-use-disorder states, including intoxication, craving, and dependence. - The opportunity anticipates four cooperative-agreement awards and identifies $4,000,000 in program funding. - Clinical trials are not allowed. Applications involving foreign subawards or subcontracts are noncompliant; foreign entities and components may otherwise participate. - No OEMs, vendors, commercial products, part numbers, or product quantities are identified.
Description
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) invites applications to renew and expand the Collaboratory on Neural Ensembles and Used Substances (NExUS). The program aims to decode how substance-use experiences and addictive neurobehavioral states are represented in the brain at the level of cell populations. Applicants are sought to develop systematic, scalable methods to identify, map, and analyze groups of neurons responding to used substances, create a comprehensive multimodal database, and test hypotheses about neural activity patterns linked to states such as intoxication, craving, and dependence. Clinical trials are not allowed.
