DARPA’s Biological Technologies Office is seeking Phase 1 research proposals for HUBBLE, a capability to map protein-protein interactions in biological contexts. - Government buyer: U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Biological Technologies Office (BTO). - Requested effort: Develop and validate an in-silico capability that predicts protein-protein interactions (PPIs) and builds context-aware interactomes, using traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a demonstration case. - Phase 1 targets approximately 100,000 modeled PPIs across more than 10 conditions, including predictions across more than 10 unique contexts such as cell types, perturbations, timepoints, or disease states. - The broader program envisions a 10-million-interaction hypercatalog in Phase 2; this solicitation seeks Phase 1 proposals. - Key technical goals and milestones: Demonstrate predictions for protein complexes with more than five interactors; deliver TBI-associated PPI predictions for government validation; and benchmark generalized predictions against a government test set, with interactor prediction accuracy above 90% as a stated target. - Services and deliverables: Phase 1 research and development, a kickoff briefing, six proposer-defined quantitative progress milestones, proof-of-concept predictions, a mid-phase technical update, TBI-associated predictions, end-of-phase benchmarking, and predictions across more than 10 contexts. No product purchases, part numbers, or product quantities are specified. - OEMs and vendors: No OEMs, vendors, or commercial suppliers are named in the opportunity or attachments. - Notable requirements: The model agreement calls for milestone-based payments, performer cost share, technical and business reporting, a Data Management Plan, final reporting, and cybersecurity safeguards. CMMC Level 1 applies to systems handling FCI/CUI, subject to a limited fundamental-research exemption; the agreement also addresses intellectual property and data rights, foreign access, property, and public release.
Description
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is soliciting proposals to develop an in-silico capability for mapping all protein-protein interactions. Utility of this capability will be demonstrated in identifying novel diagnostic and therapeutic targets within the interaction space underlying including traumatic brain injury.
