The Government of Alberta is seeking fish-protection modelling and recommendations for water diversions affecting Bow River fish populations. - Buyer: Government of Alberta, Agriculture and Irrigation; no further sub-agency or office is identified. - Scope of work: Assess fish entrainment and potential population effects at the CBRH and WH diversions, and develop fish-protection targets for provincial fisheries and water management staff. - Modelling: Adapt existing Rainbow Trout JOE and population models and the CBRH fish entrainment model; develop cumulative-effects JOE models for Brown Trout and Mountain Whitefish; assess whether JOE models are suitable or whether another approach is needed. CEMPRA models are to be developed and tested if approved. - Key outcome: Evaluate how reduced entrainment at the CBRH diversion could affect the size and structure of Bow River sport fish populations, then recommend protected fish species and size targets. - OEMs and vendors: No OEMs or vendors are identified. No equipment, products, part numbers, or product quantities are requested. - Performance period: Estimated duration is 16 months; start and end dates are not specified here.

Description

The project will identify fish species and size targets for protection from entrainment at the CBRH and WH diversions, based on modelling effects on Bow River fish populations. Work includes adapting Rainbow Trout models and developing models for Brown Trout and Mountain Whitefish to evaluate multiple fish protection scenarios. The contractor will assess the utility of the models and, if approved, develop CEMPRA models, and describe effects of reduced entrainment on Bow River sport fish populations. The work will also develop fish size and species targets for provincial fisheries and water management staff; the estimated contract period is 16 months.
