Review of Usibelli Coal Mine’s Gold Run Pass surface mining permit renewal

Alaska is reviewing Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc.’s request to renew the Gold Run Pass surface coal mining permits.

Description

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land & Water, Mining Section has received Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc.’s application to renew Gold Run Pass Mine Surface Coal Mining Permits 02-83-796 and S-0602-A. The renewal is requested for an additional five-year term and covers the previously approved permit areas; no new mining areas, boundary revisions, or changes to the operation or reclamation plan are proposed. The permit covers a 519-acre mine site on State Land approximately 12 miles northwest of Healy, Alaska. Written comments or objections are due by 5:00 PM on November 30, 2026.
