UC Davis NAGPRA Notice on Native American Human Remains and Funerary Objects

This is a NAGPRA cultural heritage repatriation notice, not a procurement opportunity. - Government notice: The Department of the Interior’s National Park Service published a notice about an inventory completed by the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). - Inventory: Human remains representing at least two individuals and four associated funerary objects were collected from a site in West Sacramento. Three objects are present—two mammal bones and one bone awl—and one lot of material is missing. - Cultural affiliation: UC Davis identified affiliation with the Patwin, Miwok, and Nisenan Tribes, including the Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians of California; Cachil DeHe Band of Wintun Indians of the Colusa Indian Community of the Colusa Rancheria, California; California Valley Miwok Tribe; Ione Band of Miwok Indians of California; Jackson Band of Me-Wuk Indians; Kletsel Dehe Wintun Nation of the Cortina Rancheria; Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, Shingle Springs Rancheria; United Auburn Indian Community of the Auburn Rancheria of California; Wilton Rancheria; and Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. - Requested action: Eligible Tribes, Native Hawaiian organizations, or lineal descendants may submit written repatriation requests to UC Davis’s designated representative. - Procurement items: No products, services, quantities, or part numbers are requested.

Description

UC Davis completed an inventory of human remains representing at least two individuals and associated funerary objects, including three present objects and one lot of missing material, collected in 1964 from a site in West Sacramento. The notice identifies cultural affiliation with the Patwin, Miwok, and Nisenan Tribes and names the affiliated Tribes. Repatriation may occur on or after November 9, 2026. Written repatriation requests must be sent to UC Davis’s designated representative.
