The Federal Aviation Administration issued airworthiness directives requiring safety-related actions on certain Engine Alliance engines and Boeing 787 airplanes. - Issuing agency: U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); this is a safety regulation, not a procurement opportunity. - OEMs named: Engine Alliance (EA) for GP7270, GP7272, and GP7277 engines; Boeing for 787 airplanes. - Engine Alliance engine action: Remove affected high-pressure turbine (HPT) interstage seals, part number 2047M99P02, and replace them with eligible parts. The notice identifies 15 seals with the highest cycles since overhaul for removal; compliance timing varies by seal group and is measured in flight cycles or days, whichever comes first. - Boeing 787 action: Continue previously required actions and make further leading-edge slat-system modifications, including replacing the leading-edge outboard geared rotary actuator with a leading-edge outboard lockout actuator (LEOLA) at applicable locations. - Procurement details: No purchase quantity, contract value, or procurement line items are specified.
Description
The Federal Aviation Administration is adopting a new airworthiness directive for certain Engine Alliance Model GP7270, GP7272, and GP7277 engines. Prompted by an aborted takeoff following an uncontained failure of the high-pressure turbine interstage seal, the directive requires removal of affected seals from service and replacement with eligible parts. Compliance deadlines vary by seal group: within 50, 100, or 150 flight cycles, or 30, 60, or 90 days after the effective date, whichever comes first. The directive is effective October 23, 2026, and comments are due November 23, 2026.
