The U.S. Department of Transportation notices concern proposed research and transit-grant information collections, not a purchase of products or services. - Government agencies: Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Research Division, and Federal Transit Administration (FTA); both are within the U.S. Department of Transportation. FTA office details are not specified. - FMCSA sleeper-berth study: Approximately 256 commercial motor vehicle drivers would participate for 16 weeks to assess flexible sleeper-berth schedules, including splits such as 5/5 or 6/4, compared with current hours-of-service rules. The study would evaluate fatigue, safety, and driving performance using surveys, psychomotor vigilance tests, sleepiness ratings, wrist actigraphy, records of duty status, and telematics. Virginia Tech Transportation Institute is mentioned in connection with gathering duty-status records. - FTA information collection: An extension of the existing Urbanized Area Formula Program collection, estimated at 5,864 respondents annually. It covers grant applications and project oversight reporting, including project descriptions, budgets, programs of projects, milestone schedules, environmental classifications, labor documentation, annual certifications and assurances, Milestone Progress Reports, and Federal Financial Reports. - OEMs and products: No OEMs, product vendors, part numbers, or products are identified. No product quantities are specified. - Opportunity type: These are information-collection and public-comment notices, not procurement solicitations.
Description
FMCSA is seeking public comment on a proposed information collection it plans to submit to the Office of Management and Budget for review and approval. The study will collect data from approximately 256 commercial motor vehicle drivers to assess whether more-flexible sleeper berth options improve working conditions and quality of life while maintaining safety equivalent to or greater than current regulations. Data collection includes surveys, vigilance tests, sleepiness ratings, wrist actigraphy, records of duty status, and telematics over 16 weeks. Comments are due December 7, 2026.
