Fermi Forward Discovery Group is seeking a supplier to engineer and provide temporary scaffolding for the LBNF/DUNE project at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in South Dakota. - Buyer and project - Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC (FFDG), which manages Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is procuring the work through its LBNF/DUNE Far Detector & Cryogenics project. - Work will be primarily underground at SURF in Lead, South Dakota, including the 4850- and 4910-foot levels and the South Cavern; some surface work may be needed. - Requested work - Engineer, rent, deliver, install, inspect, and remove temporary scaffolding and access platforms. Work will be ordered as needed, with individual task orders specifying locations, quantities, and rental periods. - Provide labor, supervision, materials, tools, equipment, transportation, competent-person oversight, and engineering documentation. - Task Order 1 calls for an approximately 25–30-foot-wide, 57–70-foot-high, and 15–20-foot-deep scaffold secured to cavern walls, with stairs, rest platforms at least every 20 feet, and standard railings. - Task Order 2 calls for one cryogenic walking/working platform, one mezzanine steel installation platform, one pipe-hanger installation platform, and two movable mezzanine installation sleds. Designs require engineering stamps and Fermilab approval before installation. - Estimated rental schedule - All-inclusive scaffold sections, 5 ft × 5 ft × 10 ft: Year 1 estimates are 3 daily, 3 weekly, and 16 monthly; Year 2 estimates are 2 daily, 2 weekly, and 8 monthly; Year 3 estimates are 2 daily, 2 weekly, and 8 monthly. - All-inclusive scaffold sections, 5 ft × 7 ft × 10 ft: Year 1 estimates are 250 daily, 250 weekly, and 1,249 monthly; Year 2 estimates are 271 daily, 271 weekly, and 1,357 monthly; Year 3 estimates are 26 daily, 26 weekly, and 132 monthly. These are estimated rate-schedule quantities, not firm order quantities. - Notable requirements - Qualified scaffold design and installation, competent-person inspection and supervision, safety tagging, safety and quality documentation, and a scaffold location/detail log. - An environmental, safety, and health (ES&H) program, applicable site and underground training, required permits and personal protective equipment, hazard planning, and compliance with SURF safety rules. High-hazard work is generally restricted to specified daytime hours unless FFDG approves otherwise. - Prompt mobilization, advance delivery coordination, and relevant similar-project experience are required considerations. - Value and term - The IDIQ subcontract has a $20,000 minimum guarantee and an estimated maximum value of $3.9 million. The expected overall term is three years, with work and rental durations established by individual task orders. Sample task orders describe an approximately five-month rental period. - OEMs and vendors - No scaffold OEM, manufacturer, or commercial supplier is named in the procurement materials. Fermilab and FFDG are the project and procurement organizations, not identified scaffold manufacturers.
