The FAA proposes updated airworthiness requirements for DG Aviation GmbH DG-1000T gliders to reduce the risk of propeller separation. - Government buyer and issuing office: U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). - OEMs and other named organizations: DG Aviation GmbH manufactures the affected gliders. DG Flugzeugbau GmbH is identified as the previous holder of the type certificate. - Affected product and quantity: Two DG Aviation GmbH Model DG-1000T gliders are estimated to be registered in the United States; the directive applies to all DG-1000T gliders. - Key compliance requirements: Revise the flight manual and install “Motor INOP” placards, or remove the powerplant. Remove, inspect, and reinstall the propeller adapter disk with safety pins. Do not install propeller adapter ring P/N 10 M 067, version a, or an earlier approved part number. - Optional modification: The modification described in DG Aviation GmbH Technical Note No. 1000/52, Issue 01.b, replaces the adapter disk, safety pins, and dynamic balancing weights and may allow removal of the flight-manual amendment and placards. - Safety concern: Propeller separation could cause loss of glider control or strike the glider, occupants, or people on the ground. This is a proposed safety regulation, not a procurement or contract award.
Description
The FAA proposes to supersede Airworthiness Directive 2025-13-08, which applies to all DG Aviation GmbH Model DG-1000T gliders and requires flight-manual revisions and “Motor INOP” placards. The proposal retains the flight-manual revision requirement and provides an optional terminating action through a specified modification, after which the placards may be removed. It also requires removal, inspection, and reinstallation of the propeller adapter disk, including installation of safety pins, and prohibits installation of affected propeller adapter rings. The FAA is proposing these requirements to address the risk of propeller separation and resulting loss of control or impact injuries.
