Description

The Department of Commerce will submit a renewal of the currently approved information collection, “Reporting Requirements for Commercial Fisheries Authorization Under Section 118 of the Marine Mammal Protection Act,” to OMB for review and approval. The collection requires reporting injuries to and/or mortalities of marine mammals incidental to commercial fishing activities, as mandated under Section 118 of the Marine Mammal Protection Act. The information is used to assess impacts on marine mammal populations and classify commercial fisheries into Categories I, II, or III; fisheries in Categories I and II must be authorized to take marine mammals, while Category III fisheries are exempt from that authorization requirement. The notice invites public comment for an additional 30 days.
