The Federal Aviation Administration proposes a clarification to safety analyses for commercial space launch and reentry licensing. - Government buyer: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), U.S. Department of Transportation; no purchasing office is identified. - Proposal: Clarify requirements under 14 CFR part 450 so far-field overpressure blast-effects analyses address existing locations where people could be exposed to risk, rather than hypothetical locations. - Expected effect: The FAA anticipates reduced regulatory burden and minor cost savings for the agency and license applicants. - Procurement details: This is a rulemaking notice, not a procurement opportunity or award. No products, services, quantities, part numbers, OEMs, or vendors are specified.
Description
The Federal Aviation Administration proposes to amend its commercial space launch and reentry licensing regulations in 14 CFR part 450 to streamline licensing and reduce regulatory burden. The proposal would clarify that a required far-field overpressure blast effects analysis need not account for members of the public in hypothetical locations. It would focus the analysis on existing locations where people could be exposed to risk, and the FAA expects minor cost savings for the agency and license applicants. Comments are due November 4, 2026.
