The U.S. Geological Survey is seeking a research partner to assess invasive climbing vines across the Southeast and U.S. Caribbean. - Government buyer: U.S. Department of the Interior; U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), through the National Climate Adaptation Science Center (NRCASC) and the Southern Appalachian Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU). - Opportunity: One cooperative agreement for a CESU-affiliated partner; estimated funding is $330,000 for a two-year project. - Research and deliverables: Identify potentially invasive vine species and areas at risk; examine plant traits associated with spread and recent disturbance locations; develop a regional database and maps of potential future spread; and synthesize management strategies for resource managers and stakeholders. - Plant trait research will draw on The World Checklist of Vascular Plants, floras, and peer-reviewed literature. - Data deliverables must follow applicable geospatial standards, use open formats, include appropriate metadata, and support dissemination to relevant stakeholders. - OEMs and commercial vendors: No OEMs, commercial vendors, or commercial products are identified.
Description
This opportunity will fund a cooperative agreement to develop a regional database on invasive climbing vines, including species status, traits associated with spread, and locations of recent disturbances. The project will create maps identifying where vines may spread and areas at risk, and will synthesize management strategies to support detection and response. Eligible applicants must be participating partners of the Southern Appalachian Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) Program. The source states expected funding of $330,000 and one anticipated award for a two-year budget period.
