Census Bureau Notice of Business Data Sharing with BEA

The U.S. Census Bureau plans to share selected voluntary economic survey data with the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) for statistical use only. - Government agencies: U.S. Department of Commerce, Census Bureau; U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). - Data covered: Business Trends and Outlook Survey; Monthly Retail Trade Survey; Monthly Wholesale Trade Survey; Manufacturers’ Shipments, Inventories, and Orders survey; Quarterly Services Survey; Quarterly Survey of Plant Capacity Utilization; Emergency Economic Collections; Survey of Housing Starts, Sales, and Completions; and Construction Progress Reporting Surveys. - Purpose and protections: BEA may use the data to improve the accuracy, coverage, and reliability of U.S. economic statistics and compare company-level information with BEA survey data. Description

The Census Bureau intends to share business data with the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) for statistical purposes. The data come from specified Census Bureau economic surveys, whose response is voluntary, and will support more efficient and accurate preparation of U.S. economic statistics. BEA may use the data to improve the reliability and coverage of its statistics and compare company-level information with BEA survey data.
