The Drug Enforcement Administration proposes a regulatory change to extend the permitted reexport period for certain controlled substances. - Government buyer: U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). - Proposed change: Extend the reexport window for certain controlled substances being shipped outside the European Economic Area from 180 days to 365 days after their release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. - Purpose: Give exporters more logistical flexibility and reduce the need to notify DEA about anticipated delays or request waivers. - Procurement status: This is a proposed regulatory change, not a solicitation or contract opportunity. No products, services, quantities, OEMs, or vendors are identified.
Description
The Drug Enforcement Administration proposes amending 21 CFR part 1312 to extend the period allowed for reexporting certain controlled substances outside the European Economic Area from 180 days to 365 days after their original release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The proposed change would give exporters more time to complete reexports and is expected to largely eliminate the need for exporters to notify DEA of delays and request waivers. Comments are due by November 30, 2026.
