The National Institutes of Health is seeking phased research proposals to identify and validate therapeutic targets for HIV-associated central nervous system complications. - Government buyer: National Institutes of Health (NIH), through the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Division of AIDS Research (DAR). - Opportunity: R21/R33 research grant under RFA-MH-27-125. - Research requested: Identify relevant patient phenotypes and modifiable mechanisms, and discover and experimentally validate therapeutic targets to advance interventions for HIV-associated CNS dysfunction. - Research may use innovative in-vitro and in-vivo models. - Clinical trials are not allowed. - Eligibility: Qualifying U.S. businesses, educational institutions, nonprofits, tribal organizations, and government entities may apply. Foreign organizations, non-domestic components of U.S. organizations, and foreign components are ineligible. - OEMs, vendors, products, and quantities: None identified.
Description
This funding opportunity supports research to identify modifiable mechanisms and therapeutic targets for central nervous system complications associated with HIV. The phased approach begins by identifying patient phenotypes with convergent pathophysiological features, then discovering and experimentally validating molecular mechanisms using innovative in-vitro and in-vivo models. The goal is to advance therapeutic target and intervention discovery for multifactorial and heterogeneous HIV-associated CNS dysfunction. Foreign organizations and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible, and foreign components are not allowed.
