The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announces the recreational fishing season dates for red snapper in the South Atlantic exclusive economic zone (EEZ) for the 2026 fishing year. The season opens at 12:01 a.m. local time on October 9, 2026, and closes at 12:01 a.m. local time on October 12, 2026. This temporary rule serves as an accountability measure to manage the recreational annual catch limit (ACL) of 22,797 fish and protect the red snapper resource. During the open season, the bag limit is one red snapper per person per day with no size limits. After the season closes, the bag and possession limits are zero.
