This opportunity is a request from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC-PHD) for prototype proposals to design and produce a custom chassis for a new commercial network router, intended for use in Navy shipboard Tomahawk Equipment Cabinets (TEC). - Objective: Develop a hardware chassis that allows a new commercial router to fit into existing TEC racks, supporting network upgrades without full rack replacement. - Scope: Includes prototype design and production, with the potential for follow-on production of up to 60 units. - Requirements: - Physical compatibility with current TEC racks - Integration with existing power supplies - Minimal disruption to other equipment - No specific OEMs, router models, or part numbers are named. - The government intends to transition the successful prototype to production if requirements are met. - Commercial vendors with expertise in custom hardware design and integration are encouraged to respond.
Description
Background & Problem Statement: Our current system needs an upgraded network router to handle modern data requirements, but the new commercial router does not physically fit into the standard equipment racks used on our ships. We lack a customized hardware chassis that can physically secure the new router and connect it to existing power supplies without disrupting the rest of the equipment.
Desired Objectives: The Navy desires to build a custom chassis prototype to house a new network router so it can fit perfectly into our existing Tomahawk Equipment Cabinet (TEC). This will allow us to upgrade our system's network technology without having to completely redesign or replace the current equipment racks. Upon successful completion, the Government intends to transition this prototype to a follow-on production phase for up to 60 units.
