Description
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is issuing a final rule repealing most provisions of the 2024 Carbon Pollution Standards for greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel-fired electric generating units (EGUs). This includes repealing emission guidelines for existing fossil fuel-fired steam generating units, carbon capture and sequestration (CCS)-based standards for coal-fired steam generating units undergoing large modifications, and CCS-based standards for new base load stationary combustion turbines. The rule is effective November 16, 2026, and is part of the EPA's reassessment of the best system of emission reduction under the Clean Air Act section 111. Concurrently, the EPA is soliciting comments on additional reasons to rescind all GHG emission requirements for fossil fuel-fired EGUs.
