The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District (SMART) is seeking sealed bids from qualified, experienced, and licensed contractors to replace two existing timber railroad bridges with steel open deck bridges on steel piles and precast abutments and wingwalls. The replacement bridges are longer than the existing ones and will be installed behind existing abutments and headwalls, which will remain in place. The project involves work on active railroad right-of-way with one authorized weekend shutdown for bridge deck installation. Environmental restrictions limit the work schedule, requiring all in-water work to be completed by October 15th, with substantial completion by November 30, 2027, and full completion by December 31, 2027.
