NASA Glenn Research Center is seeking to procure specialized x-ray tubes for its Empyrean-DY1757 instrument. - Procurement is for one each of Cu (Copper), Co (Cobalt), and Mo (Molybdenum) x-ray tubes - All tubes must be compatible with the Empyrean-DY1757 system - Sole source contract is intended for MALVERN PANALYTICAL INC, the only identified OEM - Warranty requirements: - Cu and Co tubes: 24 months post-installation - Mo tube: 12 months post-installation - Delivery lead time is 4 to 6 weeks from contract award - Managed by NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC), with performance at NASA Glenn Research Center - NAICS code: 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing) - Interested parties may submit capability statements to challenge the sole source determination; price quotes are not being accepted at this stage - No specific part numbers provided; quantities are one each for Cu, Co, and Mo tubes

Synopsis:

NASA/NSSC has a requirement for Cu, Co, and Mo x-ray tubes for Empyrean DY1757. 

NASA/NSSC intends to issue a sole source contract to MALVERN PANALYTICAL INC, Westborough, Massachusetts 01581, under the authority of FAR 12.102(a). It has been determined that MALVERN PANALYTICAL INC is the sole provider of Cu, Co, and Mo x-ray tubes for Empyrean DY1757

NASA/NSSC will be the procuring center for this effort. Performance will be located at NASA/ Glenn Research Center (GRC).

The Government intends to acquire Commercial items or services using the provisions, clauses and procedures prescribed in FAR Part 12 for Commercial

The NAICS Code for this procurement is 334516.

Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 3:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on 9/14/2026. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.
