This opportunity involves new airworthiness directives issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for Airbus SAS airplanes and Pratt & Whitney Division engines. - Government Buyer: - Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation - Airworthiness Products Section, Operational Safety Branch - OEMs Mentioned: - Airbus SAS - Pratt & Whitney Division - Products/Services Requested: - For Airbus SAS aircraft (A318, A319, A320, A321 models): - Repetitive detailed visual inspections of main landing gear (MLG) support rib 5 lugs for tool mark damage - Applicable corrective actions - One-time special detailed inspection as a terminating action - For Pratt & Whitney Division engines (PW4074D, PW4077D, PW4084D, PW4090, PW40903): - Visual inspection of high-pressure compressor (HPC) drum rotor disk assemblies for incorrect shot peen coverage - Replacement of affected assemblies if necessary - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Inspections are mandated due to quality escapes in manufacturing (tool mark damage for Airbus, incorrect shot peening for Pratt & Whitney) - No specific part numbers or purchase quantities; these are regulatory safety actions, not procurement purchases - Compliance times and intervals are specified by the FAA and EASA directives - The Airbus directive is considered an interim action with potential for further rulemaking - The directive aims to prevent fatigue damage and structural failure in landing gear and engine components.
Description
The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Airbus SAS Model A318-112; Model A319-115, -132, and -133; Model A320-214, -216, -232, -233, -251N, and -271N; and Model A321-211, -213, -231, -271N, -251NX, -253NX, and -271NX airplanes. This AD addresses a quality escape identified in the production assembly line on the main landing gear (MLG) support rib 5 lugs, which resulted in tool mark damage in the bore of the forward and aft lugs. The directive requires repetitive detailed visual inspections of the affected parts and applicable corrective actions, and provides a one-time special detailed inspection as a terminating action for the repetitive inspections. The FAA is issuing this AD to prevent fatigue damage that could lead to structural failure and collapse of the MLG.
