Description

NMFS is prohibiting directed fishing for Pacific cod by catcher vessels greater than or equal to 50 feet length overall using hook-and-line gear in the Central Regulatory Area of the Gulf of Alaska. This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the 2026 total allowable catch (TAC) of Pacific cod allocated to these vessels in this area. The closure is effective from September 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026. The regulation is issued under the authority of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act and aims to manage the groundfish fishery in the Gulf of Alaska exclusive economic zone.
