The University of Akron is seeking proposals for hazardous waste disposal services to manage a wide range of chemical waste generated from laboratory, research, and maintenance activities. - Government Buyer: - The University of Akron, Environmental Occupational Health and Safety Department - Environmental Compliance Officer: Mike DeBord - OEMs and Vendors: - No specific OEMs or manufacturers are named; current disposal managed by Petro-Chem Processing Group (ESOL) - Products/Services Requested: - Removal, transportation, and disposal of hazardous waste streams including: - Bulk solvent waste (e.g., chloroform, methylene chloride, acetone, benzene, toluene, xylene, etc.) - Labpack materials (chemicals with lost labels, generic research samples, compressed gas cylinders, PCB waste, mercury, shock-sensitive and explosive chemicals, water-reactive and pyrophoric chemicals) - Used oil, silica waste, inorganic aqueous solutions, base bath waste, and other hazardous chemicals - Specific quantities include: - Five 55-gallon drums of organic solvent waste (1,250 lbs) - Two 55-gallon drums of used oil (475 lbs) - Six 5-gallon pails of silica waste (125 lbs) - Four 5-gallon pails of base bath waste (200 lbs) - One 30-gallon drum of inorganic aqueous solution (115 lbs) - One 5-gallon pail of aqueous waste (55 lbs) - Annual waste volume totals approximately 16,196 lbs - Emergency spill response service within 4-6 hours - On-site labor, protective equipment, supplies, transportation, packaging, classification, marking, placarding, labeling, loading, and disposal - Documentation and compliance services (permits, manifests, disposal records, annual reports) - Unique or Notable Requirements: - Vendor must be able to provide on-demand waste removal and emergency spill response - All staff must be HAZWOPER trained; drivers must have Hazmat certifications - Waste must be disposed of at RCRA-approved, licensed, and authorized facilities - Vendor must provide all supplies and labor for packaging and transport - University may inspect vendor facilities; vendors must demonstrate experience with similar institutions - Pricing must be FOB destination with freight prepaid; detailed pricing, sample invoices, and references required - Compliance with all federal and state hazardous waste regulations - Excludes radioactive and biohazardous waste - Period of Performance: - Initial contract term of three years and two months, with options for two additional one-year renewals - Waste profile approvals typically valid for one year; shipping frequencies vary by waste type
