Description

NMFS is prohibiting directed fishing for Pacific cod by catcher vessels greater than or equal to 50 feet length overall using hook-and-line gear in the Central Regulatory Area of the Gulf of Alaska. This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the 2026 total allowable catch of Pacific cod allocated to these vessels. The closure is effective from September 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026. The rule is part of the regulations governing fisheries in the Gulf of Alaska under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.
