This notice concerns the intended repatriation of cultural items by Arizona State University School of Human Evolution and Social Change, as overseen by the National Park Service. - Government Buyer: - National Park Service, Department of the Interior - Center for Archaeology and Society Repository at Arizona State University School of Human Evolution and Social Change, Tempe, AZ - Cultural Items to be Repatriated: - 44 lots of unassociated funerary objects - Includes faunal bone, ceramic objects, chipped stone, ground stone, raw stone, botanicals, daub/adobe, shell objects - 53 lots of sacred objects/objects of cultural patrimony - Includes ceramic, chipped stone, ground stone, raw stone, shell objects - Origin and Context: - Items were removed from the Las Estufas site in Maricopa County, Arizona, during archaeological undertakings between 1978 and 1986 - Affiliated with Ak-Chin Indian Community, Gila River Indian Community, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, and Tohono Oodham Nation of Arizona (collectively known as the OOdham) - Notable Requirements: - Notice issued in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) - Requests for repatriation may be submitted by eligible parties - No OEMs or commercial vendors involved - No procurement or award elements present

Description

In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Center for Archaeology and Society Repository at Arizona State University intends to repatriate certain cultural items including unassociated funerary objects, sacred objects, and objects of cultural patrimony. These items have cultural affiliation with Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations, specifically the Ak-Chin Indian Community, Gila River Indian Community, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, and the Tohono Oodham Nation of Arizona. The items were removed from the Las Estufas site in Maricopa County, Arizona, during archaeological undertakings between 1978 and 1986. Repatriation may occur on or after September 30, 2026.
