The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), under the Department of Transportation, has issued a final rule affecting railroad accident reporting procedures. - Regulatory action, not a procurement opportunity; no products or services requested - Retires Form FRA F 6180.107 (Alternative Record for Illnesses Claimed to be Work-Related) - Retires Form FRA F 6180.150 (Highway User Injury Inquiry Form) - Revises accident reporting requirements: - Increases record retention period for human factor forms from two years to three years - Allows railroads to retain records longer than the minimum requirement if desired - Eliminates requirement to hand deliver or mail Form 6180.150 to potentially injured highway users - No OEMs or vendors involved; no contract or procurement value - Supported by industry associations, opposed by labor organizations; FRA determined forms are rarely used and retirement is warranted - Intended to reduce administrative burden for railroads without compromising safety
Description
This final rule retires Form FRA F 6180.107, "Alternative Record for Illnesses Claimed to be Work-Related," and Form FRA F 6180.150, "Highway User Injury Inquiry Form." The rule also changes the record retention period required under FRA's accident reporting regulations and makes other technical corrections. The forms are rarely used and their retirement is intended to reduce administrative burden without compromising safety. The rule is effective September 30, 2026.
